2010 Race Date: June, 2010 at John Ball Park Zoo!
This year's race will be held on a Saturday in June, 2010. We look forward to seeing all the different "Grandma Masks" to be worn by as many of the brave runners that dare to wear their mask...like the Running of the Bulls in Spain...this years fake Grandmas hope to run down the Real Grandmas, Grandpas and everyone else who gets a head start handicap lead...See You on June 6th...the first runner leaves the starting line at 9 a.m.!
THE RACE WILL START ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE ZOO at the Hill Top Pavilion.
RACE DAY REGISTRATION WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE STARTING LINE. LOOK FOR THE SIGNS AND CHALK LINE IN THE PARK. ONLY ONE HILL on the Whole Course!!!
Come on OUT and See if YOU can BEAT the GRANDMA!!! If you can get in the top ten overall... you can bring home Grandma's Jewels!!! If you get in the top 50...you will bring home a medal!!! Special awards to the overall male and female runners.
PACKET PICK UP: starting at 7:30 a.m. at JOHN BALL PARK ZOO!!!
RACE STARTS at 9 a.m. with the first runner leaving the starting line.
AWARDS: Unique "BEAT the GRANDMA" Cookie Jar and Fruit Cake Awards to the Overall Male and Female Winners, Special Grandma's Lost Jewel Awards for finishing in the TOP TEN, Beat the Grandma TOWELs for finishing in the TOP TWENTY, plus 50 medals awarded to the top 50 finishers. Way Cool T-Shirts given to all pre-registered runners and available while supplies last on race day.
RACE LOCATIONS: the race will be held at the John Ball Park ZOO on the Northwest side of Grand Rapids. We will start at the picnic site at the UPPER Hill Top Picnic Sites...this means that the first 2 and 3/4 miles are all downhill, flat and fast "with the wind to your back"...so look for a new PR as you Chase down those Grandma's!!!
Race T-shirts are guaranteed to all pre-registered runners and are available on a first come first serve basis while supplies last on race day.

Words from an Official Old Fart...
As a kid growing up I always enjoyed visits to Grandma's House. As with most Grandmas, you could always count on there being treats at Grandmas. But there was nothing like Grandma's Homemade Cookies!!! Whether they were Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip, or Oatmeal...they were always a big hit. On the 28th of April, you will not only have a chance to RUN and TRY to BEAT the GRANDMA...but you will also get a chance to relive those childhood memories of eating Grandma's Cookies one more time!
BEAT THE GRANDMA 5K is endorsed by the Governor's Council...
